Family-friendly Lake District attractions
Windermere and the surrounding Lake District are jam-packed with exciting family days out to keep all ages entertained. Some of our guests' favourite family attractions include:
Trotters World of Animals a top wildlife attraction
You could easily spend a whole day at this family attraction, which packs in more than 100 different species ranging from antelope to zebra, including many that are endangered. The 25-acre park also hosts regular birds of prey displays and reptile encounters, and offers tractor rides, talks from the keepers, and both indoor and outdoor play areas. Located by the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, near Keswick, there are plenty of picnic areas or there's an on-site café for lunch.Whinlatter Forest Park - a fabulous free outdoor destination
Rising to 790 metres above sea level, Whinlatter is England's only true mountain forest, with some incredible, far-reaching views over the Lake District and even as far as Scotland on a clear day. On foot you can follow the Comb Forest Trail, which is less than two miles long and takes about an hour, ideal for families. Alternatively, those who enjoy mountain biking can try out the single-track Altura Trail, which rises 500m above Keswick, the nearest town, and offers fantastic views over the northern Lakes. And for real adrenalin junkies, there's a Go Ape adventure featuring rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides up to 40 feet up in the treetops.Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry a leading educational attraction
For slightly older children, this award-winning museum transports the family back in time to discover the story of the English Lake District and its inhabitants, from the Arts and Crafts movement to Swallows and Amazons. Wandering through recreated period rooms and rural workshops, the lifelike displays narrate stories of individuals who left their mark on the remote region before the arrival of the train and the motor car, and give an insight into lost trades and professions.Brockhole: the Lake District Visitor Centre ideal for outdoor activities
With year-round events and exhibitions, and a whole host of outdoor activities on offer, Brockhole is a magnet for families with children, offering heaps to do in a single location. From canoeing, kayaking or 'walking on water' in a giant inflatable ball on the lake, to playing mini golf or ltting off steam in the adventure playground, there's pretty much something for everyone plus the new Treetop Trek aerial woodland adventure and Predator Park wildlife area. The World of Beatrix Potter a magical family attraction
This enchanting, multi-award-winning family attraction is unmissable for families who have read and enjoyed the famous tales of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, the Flopsy Bunnies, and their friends. Visitors wander through a variety of magical scenes, stumbling across all the famous characters in different settings -- from Jemima Puddle-Duck in a peaceful woodland glade and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle busy in her kitchen to Peter Rabbit out in the garden.
