Yes. Windermere railway station is a 2-minute walk from The Howbeck. Windermere is the terminus of the Windermere branch line, which connects to Oxenholme Lake District station on the West Coast Main Line. From Oxenholme you can reach London Euston in around 2.5 hours, Manchester in just over an hour, and Edinburgh in under 2 hours. The Howbeck is approximately 20 minutes on foot from the lake shore at Bowness-on-Windermere. The walk is downhill heading south from the guest house. Windermere Lake Cruises, the World of Beatrix Potter and Bowness Marina are all within that 20-minute walk.
The Howbeck is within easy reach of the best attractions in the Lake District. Windermere Lake Cruises depart from Bowness, a 20-minute walk downhill. The World of Beatrix Potter, Blackwell Arts and Crafts House and the Windermere Jetty Museum are all within a short distance. Orrest Head is a 5-minute walk and offers some of the finest views in the Lake District. Ambleside, Grasmere, Coniston and Hawkshead are all reachable in under 30 minutes by car. The guest house team is happy to recommend restaurants to suit your taste and budget. We also serve a full Cumbrian breakfast every morning included in your room rate, so the start of each day is always taken care of.
Rooms & Facilities
The Howbeck has 11 individually styled rooms and one private suite, all with luxury en-suite bathrooms, Egyptian cotton bed linen, flat-screen TVs, free WiFi, luxury toiletries and complimentary mineral water. Seven rooms include a spa bath or jacuzzi bath. The Retreat suite has its own private entrance and patio, a double jacuzzi air bath with mood lighting, a built-in TV above the bath, and a walk-in wet room jet shower. Rooms are continually refurbished and the standard is consistently rated as outstanding by guests.
The Howbeck has 11 individually styled guest rooms plus The Retreat, a private suite with its own separate entrance and patio. All rooms have luxury en-suite bathrooms and seven include spa baths or jacuzzi baths. Room types range from double and four-poster rooms to superior rooms with corner spa baths and the Retreat suite with a double jacuzzi air bath. Each room is individually designed and continually updated.
The Retreat is The Howbeck's flagship private suite and the most luxurious room in Windermere for couples. It has its own private entrance and patio, completely separate from the main guest house. The bathroom features a large double jacuzzi air bath big enough for two, mood lighting, a flat-screen TV built into the wall above the bath, and a spacious walk-in wet room with jet shower. The bedroom has a super king bed and the suite is finished to the highest standard throughout. Breakfast can be served in The Retreat on request.
The Howbeck includes complimentary access to a nearby health club with a pool, gym and spa facilities for all guests booking direct. The health club is a short drive from the guest house. Seven of our 11 rooms also have spa baths or jacuzzi baths in the en-suite bathroom, including The Retreat suite which features a double jacuzzi air bath large enough for two.

Your Stay
A full Cumbrian breakfast cooked to order is included with every stay at no extra charge. Choose from Cumberland sausage (meat or vegetarian), locally sourced bacon, sauté potatoes, roast tomato, mushrooms and eggs any way you like. The cold table includes fruit juices, cereals, fresh toast, local preserves, freshly baked croissants, continental meats and cheeses, and a platter of fresh fruit. Freshly ground coffee and individual pots of loose-leaf tea are served throughout.
Standard check-in at The Howbeck is from 3pm. Check-out is by 11am. A late check-out to 12pm is included with our romantic packages and can be added as an upgrade for £30, subject to availability, with a 1pm late checkout also available. If you are arriving early, we are happy to store your luggage so you can explore Windermere before your room is ready. Please contact us in advance to arrange.
