The Lap 2026 – Windermere Endurance Event

If you’re visiting the Lake District in early May, you may notice a real buzz around Windermere as The Lap returns for 2026.

Taking place from 9th to 10th May, with a 06:00 start, this well-known endurance event sees participants take on a 47-mile (75km) route around the full shoreline of Lake Windermere.

The route passes through a variety of scenic spots, from lakeside paths to quieter trails, making it not only a challenging event but also a spectacular one to watch. Throughout the weekend, you’ll find a great atmosphere in and around Windermere, with supporters gathering at key points along the route to cheer participants on.

If you’re already staying in the area, it’s a fantastic opportunity to experience a different side of the Lake District, whether that’s heading out for a walk and catching part of the event or simply enjoying the lively atmosphere in town.
